Ask the Readers: What Is Your Favorite Holiday Across the Seasons?

Editor's Note: Congratulations to Lucy, Raina, and Lisa for winning this week's contest!

The holiday season is officially over, but celebrations will continue throughout the year. What is your favorite holiday across the seasons? How do you celebrate? What are other weird and wacky holidays that you enjoy?

Tell us about your holiday and we'll enter you in a drawing to win a $20 Amazon Gift Card!

I'm partial to New Year's. I like it because it forces reflection. I write essays, so I reflect on my life a lot. As the year dwindles down, more people start to talk about what they did through the year and the ways different events or activities or relationships affected them. I live for these conversations. My friends and I have a big "Good Luck Meal" on New Year's Day, and I love the conversations we have about moving forward. Also, it's like a great big reset for your life, if you let it be. I mean, you can do a "reset" anytime, but I like the New Year one. It's for everyone.

My favorite Holiday is Christmas. It is so much fun decorating the tree with the family and making cookies and buying gifts. I love it all!

That's easy. It's Thanksgiving. Food, Family, Friends, and Football (die hard Cowboys fan). What more could you ask for?

My favorite holiday above all is Christmas. Has been so ever since childhood. Not so much for the gifts but the family and happiness that the season tries so much to give. My next favorite is is tie between Halloween and Thanksgiving. Halloween is fun and Thanksgiving is needed to give thanks and it begins the Christmas Holiday. New Year's Day is more sobering. One needs to plan for the year and prepare. In the summer the Fourth of July I spend with friends. In the Spring, Easter, which gives new birth to the land. I have no weird holidays but these are my fondest.

As much as I love Christmas, I have to go with Halloween being my all fave Holiday. I enjoy sitting back and watching all the scary movies on tv, visiting haunted houses, and watching all the kids have fun when trick-or-treating.

I love Thanksgiving because it is such a fun holiday that means good times are to come in the next month or so. I also like much of the food and time spent with family. I love Talk Like a Pirate Day since it is so goofy and fun and some people really get into the spirit of it as well.

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. I love the message around it (i.e., being thankful and grateful), and it seems a lot less stressful than Christmas!

I know the holiday season can be stressful, but my favorite time of year is by far Christmas. Mostly because I get to spend more time with family that lives further away and because of the extra activities my little ones like to do.

My favorite holiday is one we created 3 years ago. It's celebrated each August on a day that works for us and is our official Family Fun Day. We fill an entire day with different-than-usual activities and family time. We have done city passes and trips to a family fun center and movies. The point of the day is to have a whole day together where we're having fun with each other. Sometimes we even get each other little souvenirs while we're at it and exchange those in the evening.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because of the great food and the 4 day weekend. I also love every other holiday including Christmas and Independence Day as well as wacky holidays like National Margarita Day.

I'd have to say that May the Fourth is one of our favorite holidays (Star Wars Day!). We have a Star Wars themed dinner for which we dress up and it's just a fun way to celebrate our family uniqueness! (Also, Vanilla Day has been a popular one around here, usually held in March, where we have something vanilla with each meal or snack. It's the little things that make us who we are!)

I like the Thanksgiving through New Year's Day holidays best...to me, they all seem to go together. My husband and I celebrate them with any of our adult children who are able to be home with us. I do like to celebrate Pi Day and some of the other obscure holidays.

I like the concept of New Year's Eve and Day: a celebration of the past year, and the anticipation of the one to come. That "fresh start" feeling is nice even though I rarely stick to any resolutions. But I also enjoy Halloween (for the scary movies and creepy decorations), Easter (for the candy), and Labor Day (usually the best weather holiday and near my anniversary!).

Hands down the winner for me is Thanksgiving. It is a time of reflection upon all of the things to be thankful for such as health, family, and abundance. Every year I am thankful that my life is not a struggle. I have ample housing, food, clothing, finances, and good fortune. It is one of the few holidays that hasn't been perverted through monetization (sans Black Friday) and consumerism per se. It is a time of extended family visits and not typically an eat and run event. This year I spent almost 9 hours at my brother in law's house lounging, eating, watching tv, playing games, and generally enjoying my family company.

I like Presidents Day in the early part of the year because I usually get it off when no one else does and its a good time to trim trees and get some cold weather yard work done to prepare for spring. I love Halloween in the fall and I can't quite put my finger on it, it has something to do with when I was a kid and the way it connects neighborhood through trick or treating. Of course, Christmas in the winter is a favorite because of all of the traditions.
